Consistency Is Key

Today is a milestone for me. I have lost 6st exactly, 84lbs since I started my Keto, then Carnivore lifestyle. While I am extremely happy and proud to have hit this milestone, it has made me reflect on the 6 years it has taken me, since my starting weight in June 2020.

Looking back on my data, I have lost 4st 4lbs since January 2025. Which means I have spent four and a half years losing 24lbs over and over again. Seems like a monumental waste of time and energy to me. The question is why did I do that?

The key word for Simon and myself this year has been consistency. Earlier this year, somebody said to us that if we are eating is so healthy, why aren’t we skinny? That comment hit me hard, instead of getting upset, I used it to galvanise my why. Not that I want to be skinny, I want to be strong, healthy and happy. Don’t get me wrong, slipping on a size 14 jacket feels wonderful, knowing that it would have been a size 24 at my heaviest, but that is not my why.

This is because I had FOMO, which was very often induced by others. The fear of missing out on birthdays, anniversaries, Easter, Christmas, holidays, or because I was comfort eating. The having a “little treat” every now again won’t hurt, everything in moderation mentality is a false economy for me. Having treats last Christmas led both Simon and myself astray until mid March. Now my mind focuses on JOMO. The joy of missing out of inflammation, painful joints, sciatica, worsening my Lipoedema and Lymphoedema. The impact of eating sugar, seed oils, processed foods and carbs is even greater on Simon

I wish I had had the strength years ago to not people please. To be able to say no, when someone encouraged me to eat something, or to go out to restaurants that would put temptation in front of me. The only person who will be affected by my negative health is me, and Simon by his. It is not the person that I have appeased, just to appear to be nice.

Why am I writing this? Just maybe something I say might resonate with someone, maybe you might recognise the spiral of people pleasing, when you really need to change something in your own health. I know exactly why I need to eat as I do for my health, and I am ready and happy to explain to anyone who tries to “encourage” me to do otherwise. Simon and I are not being rude or ungrateful, we are simply choosing to be as well as we possibly can be in our 50s.

If there is something you want to achieve, do it for you, as you will be the one living with where your choices take you.

Friday 28th August

Strangely after a good night’s sleep, I feel absolutely awful today. My skin, nostrils and mouth are burning. Before and after I woke up, all my teeth were aching. The joys of Fibromyalgia.

Everyday is a new learning day with this condition.

I have Raynaud’s disease. I’ve been to the hospital so many times with terrible chest pain which I thought was related to two my heart conditions, but it could be caused by costochondritis

Sounds really affect me, especially background noise, when I’m with a large gathering, like a family get together.

Food sensitivities are really what I am tracking. I’ve found that ANY vegetables or carbohydrates affect me. I’m not eating a carnivore diet because I wanted to, it’s because it’s a necessity.

Sometimes I forget what affects me. On Wednesday, I liked the look of an onion bhaji, in addition I ate smoked salmon (loaded with sugar in the curing stage) – I regretted that. I’m still aching and burning two days later.

Breakfast and Lunch Today

A lovely ‘clean’ eating day.

4 Mashed Eggs & Butter @ 12 noon
Flanken Ribs & Chicken Wings @ 2pm

What is a Carnivore Diet.

The carnivore diet is a way of eating that only includes meat, fish, and other animal foods like eggs and certain dairy products. It excludes all other foods, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds.

This diet is how humans were eating way before agriculture was even a thing. Sadly there hasn’t been much research looking into how the carnivore diet affects our health.

Only anecdotal evidence of thousands of carnivore dieters, along with what we know about the keto diet, a close cousin, suggests that if done correctly, a carnivore diet may offer a number of powerful benefits including:

  • Eliminating all plant toxins, especially oxalates.
  • Weight loss
  • Improved insulin sensitivity
  • Improved gut health
  • Improved heart health
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Increased testosterone and libido
  • Increased mental clarity

Carbohydrates and processed seed oil consumption has ties to many metabolic disease which eventually lead to issues like diabetes, anxiety, heart disease and Alzheimers. Cutting out these things have reversed Type 2 Diabetes, brought my blood pressure and helped to manage my Hemiplegic Migraines.

March 24

Week 2 Last week wasn’t a bad one. Seven pounds lost. With that in mind, I am to keep myself on track by keeping myself accountable whilst being on holiday.

This week was a holiday we planned to stay on track. We arrived at our destination with good intentions. We were greeted with a piece of Bara Brith and a Welsh cake each. Of course because of the addiction in us we ate it. Never mind we wouldn’t get hooked on sugar!!

Below is a selection of Carnivore meals that we ate throughout the week, 4 of the days I had my usual staple of burger and eggs.

We came home after a lovely holiday. We treated ourselves to a large americano coffee with pouring cream everyday. On arriving how we were both determined not weigh in until April 1st.

Week 3 – Really very pleased with each other for staying on ‘plan’ this week. Back to it and we have a meal plan in place. You would think I would get bored because for 5 of the days this week I had Burgers and Eggs but on Sunday we had roast leg of lamb and on Saturday I ate my usual steak with some ox liver.

Week 4 – We changed it up this week with some different foods which I will put photos of later. Monday we went to the church for a coffee before our weekly visit to Lidl and Tesco. On a Tuesday we normally help out at the church in the warm space and have our meal later in the afternoon. Wednesday the grand children and our daughter called over and we provided a Carnivore sharing platter.

As you can see, we had a varied diet this week. Thursday we paid a visit to the cinema, Friday our weekly coffee and cream at Costa in Chepstow.

Today I was really proud of declining 3 Easter eggs today (Easter Sunday). I love chocolate but it’s the sugar for me, if I had eaten one, I would spend the next 3 months or so buying chocolate in Tesco until I sorted my head out.

Instead, we enjoyed this shoulder of lamb

April 1st tomorrow, weigh in day!!
